Rivers, natural pools and swimming pools to cool off during summer days

Water is the main attraction

Rivers of clean, fresh water wind through villages and beech forests, forming natural pools and perfect spots to cool off on summer days.

After a hiking route or a morning discovering the Baztan Valley, there’s nothing like taking a dip in the heart of nature, surrounded by greenery and silence.

Xorroxin natural pool

A classic spot in the valley, next to the Xorroxin waterfall, where the Bidasoa River forms pools ideal for cooling off after a walk through the forest.

The Xorroxin pool is formed at the foot of the famous Xorroxin Waterfall, one of the most spectacular natural spots in the Baztan Valley. A magical place where water cascades among rocks and vegetation, creating a beautiful natural pool.

It’s an ideal setting to enjoy nature, take an easy walk and, in summer, cool off in its crystal-clear waters after the hike.

Natural pools in Erratzu

Just a short distance from the campsite, you can enjoy small natural pools where you can cool off in the river.

Located in a green and peaceful setting, Kozpaundi pool is perfect for cooling off in summer, relaxing by the river or enjoying a swim in the heart of nature.

Lamiarrita pool is a quiet and very local spot in the Baztan Valley. Located near Arizkun and less known than other bathing areas in the valley, it stands out for its relaxed atmosphere, green surroundings and clean waters.

Leurza Reservoir

Protected natural area with calm water areas formed by the reservoir.

The Leurza Reservoir is one of the most spectacular natural spaces in northern Navarre. Surrounded by beech forests and mountains, it offers a wide, peaceful and highly photogenic landscape, ideal for walking, unwinding and enjoying nature in its purest state.

Beartzun

Located next to the Agozpe dam, it combines spaciousness, easy access and a very pleasant natural setting.

Beartzun is a bathing area formed by the calm waters of the Baztan River next to the dam, creating wide and peaceful waters, ideal for both swimming and cooling off in summer.

Access is easy and direct, making it a very popular spot for families and visitors. It also has areas to lie down, sunbathe or relax by the river. It’s one of the best options if you’re looking for a comfortable, safe and hassle-free swim.

Iturriederra

Its combination of a natural pool and picnic area makes it a perfect place to spend a full day with the family.

Iturriederra is a natural pool formed in the Baztan River, with calm waters and shallow areas, ideal for cooling off without complications. Access is very easy, making it one of the favorite spots for both visitors and locals.

The area has tables and resting areas, allowing you to combine swimming, outdoor meals and moments of relaxation in one place. Perfect for a full-day plan without the need to walk long distances.

Elbete natural pools

In the heart of the Baztan Valley, very close to Elizondo, lies one of the most authentic routes: the Elbete Natural Pools Route.

Along the Errotaberri path, you’ll find several natural pools formed by the Baztan River, each with its own character:

  • La Loca pool: a curious name linked to a local resident who protected the spot from excessive visitors.
  • Priests’ pool: formerly reserved for priests and seminarians.
  • Barberenea pool: one of the most well-known and deepest, ideal for swimming.

The setting is pure Baztan: clean water, lush vegetation and peaceful spots where you can enjoy a refreshing swim away from the busiest areas.

The sea, very close

One of the great advantages of the Baztan Valley is its proximity to some of the best beaches on the Cantabrian coast.

In just over an hour by car, you can swap the valley’s green for the sea’s blue and enjoy the Basque and French Basque coast.

Beaches such as Donostia / San Sebastián, Hondarribia, Hendaye or Saint-Jean-de-Luz make for a perfect day trip, combining mountains in the morning and the beach in the afternoon.

A unique way to enjoy a complete holiday, where nature, river and sea go hand in hand.
