In the Baztan Valley, every season of the year is celebrated with history, music, and tradition. During your stay, you can discover unique festivals where local culture comes to life: traditional dances, fairs, gastronomy, and popular celebrations in an incomparable natural setting.

The Baztan Carnival is one of the oldest and most unique traditions in Navarre.

They are characterized by traditional characters, ancestral rituals, music, parades, and a very authentic popular atmosphere. Each locality maintains its own particularities, making the carnival diverse and very special.

Livestock fairs reflect the strong connection of the Baztan Valley with rural life and livestock farming.

At these fairs, local breeds are showcased, competitions are held, and a very traditional atmosphere is created, accompanied by a local market and gastronomy. They are an excellent opportunity to discover the rural life of the valley.

Artzai Eguna pays tribute to the shepherd, a key figure in the history and culture of the Baztan Valley.

The day includes demonstrations of traditional work, an artisan market, and the popular sheepdog competition, one of the most anticipated events. It is a very authentic and participatory festival.

Olentzero is a beloved Basque mythological character, especially among children.

On Christmas Eve, the charcoal burner comes down from the mountains to visit the villages and deliver gifts to children. The parades are usually accompanied by music, torches, and a magical, heartwarming atmosphere.

The Baztan Valley and its surroundings are deeply connected to legends of witches and sabbaths, a tradition that forms part of the valley’s cultural imagination.

These stories are linked to ancient pagan rituals and the famous caves of the area. Today, they are brought to life through cultural visits, interpretive routes, and themed events that combine history, mythology, and mystery.

Baztandarren Biltzarra is one of the most important celebrations in the valley and symbolizes the unity and brotherhood of its villages.

It brings together the inhabitants of the 15 villages of Baztan for a festive day featuring a parade of floats, traditional costumes, mutildantza, folk music, and a large communal meal. It is a highly participatory and colorful celebration, with a joyful atmosphere throughout the day.
